Welcome note

Dear Colleagues,

Pediatric Neurosurgery is truly an interdisciplinary enterprise, for the best outcome of infants, children and adolescents with neurosurgical diseases. The interdisciplinary daily routine is one of the main keystones for the success of Pediatric Neurosurgery. In current meetings we invite colleagues from other disciplines from time to time, however a regular „forum“ for interdisciplinary exchange is still missing.

Therefore, we have created a German platform for interdisciplinary discussion on pediatric neurosurgical topics, which was launched in 2015. After two successful, insightful meetings with fruitful exchange between pediatric neurologists, orthopedic and pediatric surgeons, pediatric oncologists, pediatric epileptologists and pediatric neurosurgeons, we are convinced, that opening the forum to the European / International level will be the next logic step.

This year’s meeting will deal on one day with interdisciplinary aspects of craniosynostosis regarding diagnostics, treatment options, and new genetic insights. The second day will focus on the interdisciplinary management for craniocervical junction anomalies and the challenges in spinal lipomas.
The meeting will be organized by interdisciplinary teams from Würzburg (T. Schweitzer and H. Böhm – craniosynostosis) and Hamburg (P. Kunkel and R. Stücker – spine).

We hope to welcome you for the true excitement of interdisciplinary crossover, which will take place in the beautiful southern German city of Würzburg in October 2017.

With kind regards

and on behalf of the whole organizing committee

Martin U. Schuhmann, Tübingen

Ulrich Thomale, Berlin
